community education

Extra curricular programs have so many benefits for children. Futuro Lleno de Esperanza offers several opportunities for community kids to get involved in fun activities outside of school!

The safe space created at Futuro Lleno de Esperanza allows students from 5-16 years of age explore their potential in different areas. There is a growing after school program, Fun Saturdays, Chicas Poderosas, dance club, Tae Kwon Do and more available for free or low cost. These types of community programs support social, emotional, cognitive, and academic development. These programs also help reduce risky behaviors and promote physical health.

After School Program
The After School Program began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the Dominican Republic cancelled in person school for 16 months. Older students came to the center to complete their school work and play. After working with the children during the pandemic, the team at Futuro Lleno de Esperanza decided it was imperative to launch a homework center. The academic deficiencies created during the pandemic were vast, and it was evident the students needed more support.
The program began with 3 students in October 2021, and by the end of the school year, more than 30 students were enrolled. The students received help with their homework and support for reading and math. They took part in art workshops and different physical-fitness activities.

The program will grow in 2022-2023 to include formal art workshops, a financial literacy program, volleyball, and yoga.

Sports

Our Tae Kwon Do students meet once a week. Tae Kwon Do develops courtesy and respect, including self-respect, it improves self-control, cooperation, and physical coordination. The sport also encourages elementary and middle school students to persevere when faced with challenges.

Our 5-8 year old volleyball students meet once a week to learn the basics of volleyball. Like all team sports, volleyball teaches teamwork, problem solving, goal setting, and more. Volleyball also encourages students perseverance.
